KU Portfolio

Article I is a set of lesson plans that demonstrate what I learned from C&T 740 Module 2. This module discusses the importance of read alouds and how to utilize them in the classroom for optimal learning. The idea of using a read aloud in the classroom has been stated multiples times throughout the KU program, but this particular module highlights the best process. I used this process with my students to discuss figurative language in my 4th grade lesson plans. Feel free to look at other grades, but I will be speaking specifically to the 4th grade plans.
I chose this artifact because it demonstrates how I continue to use the knowledge learned in the course into my teaching practices. It also shows how I address the Archdiocese of Chicago Standards and implement reading and writing into the daily goals. The lessons were not required to be as detailed as other plans I have seen, so if there is more information needed I can supply it. Overall, this is an example of how I am continuing the practice of using the information gathered from the KU courses.

Artifact iI
Artifact II is a PowerPoint that I used during a school professional development
day. I collected many of the facts used throughout this presentation from C&T 741: Comprehension and Study Strategies. I used the information from module 3 which discusses vocabulary, and module 6 which discusses reading in math and science. This course provided strategies to use with students to make them strong practicing readers.
The purpose of this artifact is to demonstrate what I took away from the course that I felt many teachers at my school were overlooking at my previous school. I wanted to provide information that I found important and easy to adapt so they [teachers] could continue to better serve the students in the community. I continue to emphasize with my partner teachers how they can utilize vocabulary and affixes in the classroom to teach connections with Greek and Latin root words across the curriculum. I believe this fully fits the CAEP 4.2 standard and also provides valuable feedback of improvement in my professionalism as well as continuing to develop successful peer relation skills.
